A lot has happened since Verwijs Seafood was founded in 1988. These are the milestones we have achieved over the years. While the core principles have always remained the same, namely enabling a diverse range of products from around the world for our customers. Products ranging from pure fish, 'value added' and retail-ready to the premium brand Star Pride.
The goal of Verwijs Seafood is as clear today as it was 30 years ago. We want to strike a balance between the capabilities of our suppliers and the wishes of our customers, without losing sight of environmental aspects. We therefore source directly from trusted sources. From international suppliers with whom we have often worked for years. In this way, we can continue to be sure of high-quality raw materials and beautifully finished fish products.
John Verwijs, ambitious as ever, saw a gap in the market for exotic fish on the continent. His drive and adaptability is what enabled him at only 25 years of age to go out into the ethnic markets of Brussels and Paris to supply their needs.
Working out of a van would no longer be enough for what he wanted to do so he opened Verwijs Import Export B.V. (now Verwijs Seafood) in an unknown village in The Netherlands. This village, Rilland in Zeeland, has now become a very desirable location for many big companies due to its strategic position.
After seeing an advertisement, Mr Tamimi sent John a fax asking him to come to Yemen. A business partnership, and now very close friendship, was founded. Thanks to John’s out-of-the-box thinking and their trust for each other Verwijs Seafood has exclusive sourcing rights of Tamimi Fisheries seafood in Europe.
Making sure to be present at many trade shows to reach a global market, lead to an increase in demand and need for increased production space.
